Chapter guidelines
- The aims of the chapter are defined as 'Fun, Friendship and Frivolity'.The chapter as such does not undertake political, religious or charitable works, or indeed any work.
- Jenny (Lady Jingle Bells), Barb (The Duchess) and Pam (Lady Rose Bramble) are Founder Members
- Lady Jingle Bells is chapter queen, but since in our country we already have a Queen, uses the title First Lady of Frivolity. The Duchess and Lady Rose Bramble are Vice-Queens, known by the titles of Second Ladies of Silliness
- Membership of chapter is open to all adult women who are willing to abide by these guidelines, regardless of age, but at the ultimate discretion of Founder Members
- The chapter is a purely social group whose events are gatherings of friends. Neither the chapter as a group, nor the individual members, nor The Red Hat Society can assume more responsibility for the safety of participants than would any other group of friends: participants in chapter events accept that they use their own judgment as to the risks they are willing to take.
- Guest members may attend 3 gatherings, after which an invitation to become a Complete Daft Old Bat with right to assume a nom de chapeau would normally be extended.
- Complete Daft Old Bats may select for themselves any nom de chapeau* they please (other than 'Queen' anything) and change their minds whenever they like; however, a nom de chapeau should not be likely to offend.
- There is at present no subscription, but Full Members share the cost of annual registration with the Red Hat Society - at present this works out at around £1.50 each
More
A Member is expected to:
- Wear a Red Hat (Pink if under 50) to all official chapter events; this means 'something red on the head' and includes fascinators, whimseys, visors, deely-boppers, scarves and any clearly visible hair decoration
- Wear as much Purple (Lavender if under 50) as possible to all official chapter events, bearing in mind that it takes time and money to amass a wardrobe, but equally that the impact of the group is lost if the dress code is not adhered to. (nb Colours may be reversed to red with purple hat during a member's Birth month)
- The criterion for the amount of red and purple necessary is "If you got separated from the group, would a passer-by know you should be with us?"
- Borrow a Red Hat or Purple Garment from the Chapter Wardrobe if necessary to comply with the above.
- Be willing to organise, or co-organise, one Gathering per year
- Notify the organiser of a Gathering whether she will be attending or not
- Pay for any tickets, meals etc she books in advance even if in the event she does not attend
- Maintain the privacy of other members by not circulating their email addresses beyond the chapter (eg, using the 'BCC' when sending round robins to large groups of friends)
*A Nom de chapeau is like a nom de plume, only with the whole hat, not just a plume
